The Spring Gala is simply an awesome party. The goal is twofold – it’s both a fundraiser and a community building event. We want everyone to join together to not only raise money, but also enjoy food, cocktails, laugh together, and dance into the night. To make this event a success we need you to attend, volunteer, and donate. See below for the answers to many Frequently Asked Questions and get ready to #dropitlikeitsyacht!
1. WHAT IS THE SPRING GALA?
a. The Spring Gala is Hollywood Schoolhouse's largest and most elaborate event and fundraiser of the year. Organized by the Parent Association Executive Board, it is the Parent Association's biggest fundraiser of the year for Tuition Assistance.
2. WHEN AND WHERE IS THE SPRING GALA?
a. The 2018 HSH Spring Gala will take place on Saturday, May 19th in the grand ballroom of the Line Hotel in Koreatown (3515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90010) from 7 – 11 PM.
3. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE GALA?
a. The night begins with a cocktail reception where parent attendees and Schoolhouse faculty and staff enjoy signature cocktails, take photos, and have the opportunity to bid on amazing silent auction items. Once the ballroom opens -- dinner, dancing, and an exciting live auction will commence.
4. WHAT IS THIS YEAR’S THEME?
a. This year’s theme is Yacht Rock. Guests will set sail and cruise into the smooth sexy tunes of 70s and 80s rock performed by a 7-piece live band, Yachtly Crew. You can check them out here.
5. WHAT TYPES OF AUCTION ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE?
a. There will be both a silent and live auction. The silent auction features fabulous items including one of a kind jewelry and experiences such as concerts and set visits. There will also be class art masterpieces, teacher treasures and gift baskets filled with beauty and spa experiences to bid on. The live auction offers amazing getaways to local and international destinations along with VIP tickets and one of a kind experiences.
6. WHAT KIND OF DONATIONS ARE BEST?
a. Read more about what types of items we are looking for on our Auction Ideas page, and then fill out a Donation Form when you are ready to donate!
7. WHEN ARE DONATIONS DUE?
a. We would like to receive all donation forms by Friday, April 13th in order to allow time for compiling, packaging, and including in our program.
8. I WANT TO VOLUNTEER/DONATE
a. If you’d like to volunteer to help with the gala, email firstname.lastname@example.org. All volunteers and any level of participation is welcome. Also, if you have a connection to lighting/production rentals or alcohol sponsorship, please let us know.
9. HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS?
a. Tickets will go on sale after Spring Break.
10. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
a. HSH loves a costume party! If you choose to dress in theme, classic Yacht Rock fashion includes captain’s hats, sport glasses, sailor shirts, ascots, boat shoes, Hawaiian shirts, stripes – and mustaches.
11. WHAT IS CLASS ART?
a. We need a parent volunteer from each class to act as class art leader. The leader will help organize and create a unique masterpiece which will be auctioned off at the event. It’s a fan favorite and you can let your imagination set sail.
12. HOW DO I BID ON AN ITEM?
a. A week prior to the auction there will be an item catalog published here for you to browse through. The night of the event, when you check in, you will receive a bidder number that you will use to bid on items. The silent auction items will be displayed throughout the venue at themed tables with a bidding sheet and starting value attached. Place your bid and your bidder number on the sheet – and hope that you’re the highest bidder. The areas will close at different times, announced by our emcee. The highest bid on each item when that particular table closes will be the winning bid. For our live auction, you will receive a paddle with your bidder number on it. During the live auction there will be an auctioneer describing the wonderful auction packages and experiences – raise your bidding paddle to bid on them – the highest bidder will receive the item.
13. DO I HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY?
a. There will be several ways to participate at the event without spending a lot of money. At the Silent Auction some items can be won for as low at $25. The gift card wall allows you to buy a gift card now for the same value that you contribute. Also, you can purchase raffle tickets for as low as $20.
14. WHEN CAN I CHECK OUT AND PICK UP THE ITEMS THAT I PURCHASED?
a. When you purchase your tickets we will ask to take your credit information at that time. If you haven’t provided credit card information, we will take that information when you arrive at the Gala. When the auction closes, we will input all the winning bids and you will receive an email notifying you of any items you have won the next day. The credit card on file will be charged for your items at that time as well. Items can be picked up from Hollywood Schoolhouse during the week after the gala beginning Monday afternoon.
